Rental terms

Please read our rental terms before your trip. If something is missing, message us on WhatsApp or Telegram or email info@phuketdrive.com.

1. Driver requirements

  • Minimum age — 21.
  • At least 2 years of driving experience.
  • Your national driving licence plus an International Driving Permit.
  • Only drivers listed in the agreement may drive the car. An additional driver can be added — just tell our manager.

2. Documents

At pick-up you will need:

  • the original and a copy of your passport;
  • the original and a copy of your driving licence.

We do not keep your original documents. You cannot rent or drive a car with a copy of your licence: the fine for driving without a licence is up to 50,000 ฿.

3. Deposit and payment

  • The deposit is 5,000 ฿ (or 200 USD / 200 EUR) for small and mid-size cars and 10,000 ฿ (or 300 USD / 300 EUR) for big cars (SUVs, pickups). The amount is shown on the car page.
  • The deposit is paid at pick-up — in cash or as a hold on your bank card (please let us know in advance). It is refunded when you return the car; the bank releases a card hold within a few days.
  • The rental is paid at pick-up. We only ask for an advance payment for long bookings (from 1 month) and for peak dates.
  • Card payments — please let us know in advance, a 3% fee applies. We accept VISA, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay and Diners Club.
  • Payment in dollars or another currency is converted at the xe.com exchange rate.

4. Insurance

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included with every car:

  • third-party liability;
  • damage cover for the rental car with an excess;
  • medical expenses for the driver, passengers and third parties;
  • theft cover with an excess.

The excess is the amount the renter pays for repairs if the accident was their fault or the other party could not be identified:

  • Group 1 — small and mid-size cars (classes S — ML): 2,000 — 10,000 ฿; 20,000 ฿ if the car is stolen or lost.
  • Group 2 — big cars (classes L, XL: Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Camry, Ford Ranger etc.): 4,000 — 20,000 ฿; 30,000 ฿ if the car is stolen or lost.

We do not offer a zero excess: the rental is cheaper this way, and experience shows a zero excess makes drivers less careful. If nothing happens through your fault, you get the full deposit back.

Compulsory insurance

  • Third parties: bodily injury — up to 50,000 ฿ per person; death or permanent disability — up to 100,000 ฿ per person.
  • Driver and passengers: bodily injury — up to 15,000 ฿ per person; death — up to 35,000 ฿ per person.

First-class insurance

  • Third parties: bodily injury or death — up to 1,000,000 ฿ per person and 10,000,000 ฿ per accident; property — up to 2,500,000 ฿ per accident.
  • Driver and passengers (bodily injury, death, permanent disability): driver — up to 100,000 ฿, passengers — up to 200,000 ฿ per person, bail — up to 300,000 ฿ per accident.
  • Car repair: class S — up to 350,000 ฿, class M — up to 500,000 ฿, class L — up to 1,000,000 ฿.

Insurance does not cover moral damages claimed by third parties injured through the renter’s fault — such claims are settled between the injured party and the renter in person or in court, and the renter may not be allowed to leave the country until it is resolved. Insurance is void if alcohol is detected.

5. Fuel and mileage

  • The car is delivered with a full or almost full tank; the level is noted in the agreement.
  • Return the car with the same level or pay for the missing fuel based on the full-tank price stated in the agreement.
  • Unlimited mileage.

6. Where you can drive

  • Phuket and neighbouring provinces (Phang Nga, Krabi).
  • Trips to other regions of Thailand — by agreement with our manager.
  • Taking the car outside Thailand is not allowed.

7. Extending your rental

  • Contact us as soon as you know how many extra days you need — we will check that the car is available.
  • An extension of 1–2 days is paid when you return the car.
  • For an extension of 3 days or more our staff will meet you on the last day of the current rental to collect the payment.

8. Cancellation and early return

Please book when you are sure about your trip and let us know about any changes in advance. If the rental is already paid (in full or as an advance payment), for a cancellation or early return:

  • more than 48 hours in advance — full refund for unused days;
  • less than 48 hours — one day of rental is charged;
  • less than 24 hours — two days of rental are charged.

Time is counted from a notice received during working hours (10:00 — 18:00); a notice sent outside working hours counts from the next working time. Please send it in writing via WhatsApp, Viber or Line to +66 660 600 699 or to info@phuketdrive.com.

If the shorter rental no longer qualifies for a duration discount, the days used are recalculated at the price without the discount before the refund.

9. Pick-up, return and late return

  • Our delivery team works Mon — Sat, 10:00 — 18:00. We deliver and collect cars in any delivery zone — the price depends on the zone.
  • 07:00 — 10:00 and 18:00 — 22:00 — on request, 500 ฿ on top of the delivery price. From 22:01 to 06:59 there is no delivery or collection: we will bring or collect the car during the next working hours, and our driver will take you to your hotel or the airport (transfer).
  • Online bookings must be made at least 24 hours before pick-up; for sooner dates please message us.
  • At pick-up we inspect and photograph the car together with you and note any damage and the fuel level in the agreement; you keep a copy. At return the car condition and fuel level are checked against the agreement.
  • Minimum rental period — 3 days.
  • Returning the car up to 2 hours late is free. If you are later than that, an extra day is charged.

10. Fines

Traffic fines received during the rental are paid by the renter. Common fines in Thailand:

  • driving without a licence — up to 50,000 ฿;
  • unfastened seat belt — 400 ฿;
  • talking on the phone while driving — 400 ฿;
  • wrong parking — 400 ฿;
  • running a red light — 1,000 ฿;
  • riding a scooter without a helmet — up to 500 ฿ for the rider and passenger; carrying a passenger without a helmet — up to 1,000 ฿.

Police regularly set up checkpoints on the roads. If a wheel is clamped for wrong parking, take the ticket from the windscreen, go to the nearest police station by taxi (drivers know where to go), pay the fine and come back — the clamp will be removed.

11. Accident or breakdown

  1. Call us right away: +66 660 600 699.
  2. Take photos and video of the scene and the vehicles.
  3. Do not move the car until the police or insurance officer arrive. If it blocks traffic, move it only after taking photos and video.
  4. Smile — it does work here.

Going to a bar or club? Take a taxi: accident investigations at night take 2–3 times longer, and insurance does not cover you if alcohol is detected.

If the car breaks down through no fault of yours, we will replace it with a similar car of the same class, a higher-class car at no extra charge, a lower-class car with a refund of the difference, or a car from our partners. If no replacement is available, we will refund the unused days.
